Giveaway: Water Kefir, Milk Kefir, & Your Choice of Culture Starters

I don’t believe that everyone can eat the same thing and be healthy. I don’t believe that everyone needs the same ratio of carbs to fat to carbohydrates. I just think that every body has unique needs based on nationality and previous history.

The one thing I think is universal is that everyone can benefit from fermented foods. You can eat yogurt, milk kefir, water kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread, raw cheese, or lacto-fermented vegetables. In every case, the culturing process seems to take whatever nutrients are in that food to begin with to a whole new level of nourishment.

So today I am excited to give away a few culture starters that can help you turn good foods into great nourishment. Cultures for Health is giving one reader a starter for milk kefir, water kefir and your choice of:

  • Yogurt Starter. Choose a mesophilic or thermophilic culture and start making raw milk yogurt.
  • Sourdough Starter.
  • Kombucha Starter
  • Buttermilk Starter.

  1. Hi Shannon – great giveaway. I checked out the site but did not see where to enter the giveaway? Also, my computer would not let me click on your site to get to Cultures For Health. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Thanks, Ina

  2. Awesome give away! I have been interested in making more fermented and cultured food, but feel a bit overwhelmed with it. I regularly make my own sauerkraut now, which is a start, but sourdough bread is a definite must-try!

  3. I just tried cultures for life’s kefir grains last week after seeing the ad on your site. We love it, although I’m still trying to figure out the easiest way to remove the grains without accidentally eating them! The kefir is delicious! My husband was shocked at the smooth flavor. In the past I’ve purchased kefir starter from our co-op, which is good, but not this good or I’ve gotten it from the farm where we purchase our milk. Their kefir is just so-so. This kefir came out very thick and luscious with a very smooth flavor. I highly recommend it!

  4. Just entered on their site for the giveaway.

  6. I was reading this in my google reader and clicked through to figure out how to enter – my boss came up behind me and just asked “What is Keff-fur??”

That was a close one. Been trying to save up to buy a Kombucha culture actually, spending too much at one of the local Kombucha breweries here in Portland. Thank you for hosting this!

  7. I just entered on the Cultures for Health site. We eat GF, and have tried soaking some , but need inspiration to pursue it further.

  8. I don’t need to enter because I’m already using these great cultures, but I wanted to comment for Therese-Artistta. I use this to strain my kefir grains: http://www.culturesforhealth.com/plastic-mesh-strainer-set.html

The large strainer fits snug on my large anchorware measuring bowl. I just dump the kefir and grains in, swirl it around with a plastic spoon, and then dump the grains back into my jar. It works great! I was told to NOT use metal with the grains so this plastic option is convenient. Hope this helps.

  9. I love this give away, I entered my info and would love a sourdough starter. I am just getting into the nourishing foods tradition!

  10. Awesome giveaway! Just entered. I’ve been so intrigued by the water kefir! Have yet to try it. Right now, the fermented thing in our house is red and green sauerkraut. Good, but not as popular with my kids as sourdough or kefir! 😉

  14. I entered to receive the newsletter. And, I totally agree about fermented foods being one dietary staple that everyone needs. Every one of my friends and family that I have gotten to try them have reaped immense health benefits from it. I’ve been making kombucha for a while now, but I just grew a scoby from a store-bought bottle, so I’d love to try with the real thing!

  15. I have been curious about making my own kefir. I would also choose the sourdough starter. Thanks for hosting the giveaway.
