Five Things I Couldn’t Live Without In Our Off-Grid Kitchen
I have been wanting to share our very basic, very unprofessional off-grid infrastructure with y’all for quite some time now. I am always fascinated when reading about how people do the basics of domestic life without modern conveniences. Problem is we’ve passed the three week mark on one or all being sick and, well, priorities have to be made.
Until then I’d like to share with you the top five items I have found to be necessities in our off-grid kitchen. They aren’t fancy gadgets, they aren’t anything extravagent or particularly "foodie", but their simplicity has gotten us through these past three months.
So, if you’re interested, go check out the article Five Things I Couldn’t Live Without In Our Off-Grid Kitchen. And I would love to hear your ideas for what could streamline those daily tasks in the kitchen.
I bought a cast iron griddle to throw on the wood stove and it’s been really nice for breakfast. I can fry everyone’s eggs at the same time which is impossible in a skillet.
Here’s the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Double-Reversible-Grill-Griddle/dp/B002CMLTXG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326928646&sr=8-2
I’m not off-grid yet, but I love my cast-iron dutch oven for cooking/baking in and hope to be using it on my new woodstove soon!
Five things I couldn’t live without in our off the grid kitchen would have to be:
Our coffee percolator which sits on a burner to work.
My cast iron cookware, and I have quite a collection.
My wood cook stove
Stainless steel mixing bowls (really big, bought from a restaurant supply store)
My non-electric pyramid toaster
here is my new real food blog! http://gutsyhealth.blogspot.com/
hope you don’t mind me trying to get a few extra readers!
