Daddy’s Girl
The garlic has been safely dried and tucked away for quite some time now, but I just came across some of these pictures from the garlic harvest.
They remind me of something that many people seem to miss, when they see things from afar. All too often people comment on how much Annabelle looks like her Mama. I always reply “It’s the red hair.”
Because when you put this girl next to her Daddy, I think it’s pretty plain to see. Her eyes and nose are the first clue – two peas in a pod.
But if you just watch her for a while you’ll see there’s more to it than a shared family resemblance. She’ll follow him to the garden with arms outstretched. She finds his lap to sprawl out in when she needs some time away from a crowd. And when the tickling ensues, you won’t see a bigger gap-toothed grin from this one than when Daddy’s in on it.
So while she still sees Mama as a comfort, much like a bottle or a blanket, I don’t think there’s any doubt where her affections lie. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Just checking in on you here at the Library. Couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful update.

I love your blogs, but I especially enjoy your photography. You have a special talent of capturing images that are evocative and not just descriptive. The pictures of your daughter and husband are wonderful, and also recently, the one of the sunflower taken in silhouette at sundown.
Love the picture of daddy and his little girl. there is nothing so special as that relationship. thanks for sharing.
