An Agrarian Childhood: Building a Rock House

One day Stewart and I happened to be out in front of the house just in time to see Abram rolling a large tire down the road. This little man, our only introvert thus far, was just absolutely gleeful and it was written all over his face.

I looked over at Stewart and saw that this introverted papa had it written all over his face as well. He was watching his boy in a moment of realization and gratitude.

There’s hard work and there’s participating in the ever-present chores of living an every day life, but in the end, when we’re all present to see that tire roll away on him, it’s not a bad way to grow up.

I hope Stewart continues to make these videos for family and friends, and you dear blog-readers. And also for me.

For, on these long, hot days filled with work and sweat and weariness, it’s rather important to remember one of the many reasons they call it “the good life” – the gleeful grin of an almost five-year-old boy whom I like to call Boo Boo, and his fellow builders named Lijee Boo Boo and Belly Girl.

  1. It’s pretty obvious that the Papa doesn’t like his little girl at all! LOL. I really enjoy your posts, it gives me hope that we’ll get there too!

  2. What a sweet video–love the ending. It is wonderful to see your sweet children growing and their attitude of helping each other.

  3. Sweetness! It reminds we of the wonderful children’s book Roxaboxen. If you don’t know it, you must check it out from the library.
