Mid-February Postcards

I had this huge long post I’ve been writing up all week but it’s still not ready and we’re still recovering from a house-wide head cold so I guess a few photos is all I’ve got this for this space this week.

It’s time to plant potatoes and so the field of pea greens is getting cut for people and animals to eat. These were a cover crop of Austrian Winter Peas and they taste exactly like a sweet pea to me. Mabel and the goats also love them.

Also, Ruthie turns five and Annabelle seven this month and I can’t see straight for the speed at which these days go by.

And who else has gallons and half-gallons all over their kitchen of mysteriously bubbling or soaking foods? Milk kefir, sprouting lentils, and soaking amaranth for porridge are in this shot on one of the days we actually got the counter cleaned off.

Are you planting, soaking, fermenting, or still wading through winter?

  1. We finally got winter with 18 inches of snow and everything closed up for about a week. It is now slowly melting away with temps from 30-40 degrees. But least we ce!ebrate too quickly, more is on the way come Sunday. Haha. We are not as busy as you, but it sure interrupted our lives.
